Boat Design Lesson Plan






The following lesson plans were designed from the input of teachers, professors, and past/present members of eyes. for every site visit, eyes will supply the necessary materials and experienced volunteers for the prepared lesson(s).. Students design and build full-size boats made out of two-liter plastic bottles, chicken wire, and plywood. then they race the boats, with the boat's designers "manning the hull", in the school's swimming pool.. This lesson further develops principles of floating and sinking to young learners. it allows children to explore how boats and ships use the principle of displacement and buoyancy to stay afloat. the activities allow children to experiment with different shapes and design of boat ‘hull’ to see which floats best..

The fun with speedboats lesson explores how boats are engineered to achieve speed. student teams consider and develop a design, build their speedboat out of everyday items, and test their boat against those developed by other student "engineering" teams.. Estimated boat design time: 1 class period, 50 minutes. lesson plan abstract: students will be engaged in a hands-on activity to test the efficiency of various cargo boat designs. in testing, students will collect data using 3d-printed boat models and determine which design is superior in terms of total cargo mass..
